Security Evaluation for Android System

There are over 2 billion active devices on the Android OS platform and its still growing. Coupled with the growth of the Android devices, is the increase in breach of privacy and security of the Android users. The Android devices such as the smartphones allow the users to install various applications either from sources such as Googles Play store or from third party websites. These applications make the device vulnerable to attacks as many of the applications continuously collect data with or without the users knowledge. The Android devices come in with a variety of sensors embedded which collect data. This data can be easily manipulated due to the loopholes in Android OS. The users install applications without knowing and understanding the privacy and security risks. This project ‘Security Evaluation for Android Systems’ aims at providing android users a way to evaluate their device’s safety and security. This paper shows the metrics used for computing the overall Android device security. Three different intelligent systems are presented in this paper each of which computes the overall device security based on specific metrics. A data-set of 123 android devices is used and labeled with the overall security score using the three intelligent systems.
